A month-long Halloween-themed celebration at the Houston Zoo with seasonal decorations, animal enrichment, and family activities.
Zoo Boo is back at the Houston Zoo this fall, running from September 25 through October 31. It's the zoo's month-long autumn celebration and one of the city's favorite fall traditions, so you've got plenty of time to fit it in whenever your schedule opens up. The zoo itself dates back to 1922 and is an AZA-accredited conservation and education nonprofit.
During the celebration, the grounds are dressed in seasonal dΓ©cor. You'll find a pumpkin lantern tunnel, a peek-a-boo pumpkins display, and a leaf lantern arch along Autumn Avenue. The animals get in on it too, with fall-themed enrichment like pumpkins and cinnamon-scented paw-zzles. The talking pumpkins, Gourdon and Octavius, return by popular demand, and the zoo is partnering with The Houston Monarch Story to bring monarch butterfly sculptures into the pollinator gardens.
On select nights, the zoo stays open after dark with themed animal enrichment, a costume contest, carnival games, and Meet the Keeper Chats. There's also a separate behind-the-scenes Reptile House experience that runs on select days for small groups. And if you've got old handheld devices taking up space at home, you can recycle them at the main entrance.
