A collaborative comedy writing workshop where writers gather to sharpen their joke writing and punch up existing material.
Williams Writers Workshop: Comedy Writers Room meets every Wednesday at Bad Astronaut Brewing in Houston, from 6 PM to 8 PM. It's a comedy writers workshop run by local comics as part of Bad Astronaut Presents, and it's free to enter.
The room works as a collaborative space where writers gather to help each other sharpen their joke writing and punch up existing material. If you've got a set you're working on or a few bits that aren't quite landing, this is the kind of place where you can bring them and get a second pair of eyes on them. The whole point is the back-and-forth: you help someone else find the right punchline, and they do the same for you. It's less about performing for a crowd and more about the actual craft of writing comedy.
One thing that sets it apart from a formal class is that the social side is as much a part of the evening as the work. You're hanging out at a brewery, so the atmosphere is relaxed, and the people you're working with are other writers in the city. It's as much about building a community of comics as it is about the writing itself, and since it happens every week, it's easy to make a habit of it. Whether you're just starting out or you've been writing for a while, it's a low-pressure way to get your work in front of people who know the game.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Houston and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.
