A nature-inspired class to learn how to identify, harvest and prepare herbal tea from wild plants and garden herbs.
Wild Tea is coming to the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center on Saturday, October 10, from 1 PM to 3 PM. It's a class on how to identify, harvest, and prepare herbal tea from wild plants and garden herbs, and it's part of Sip & Savor, the Arboretum's nature-inspired cooking and tasting series for adults. The whole series works with ingredients from the wild, the garden, and local producers, so this fits right in.
The session is built around the kinds of things you can find in your own backyard. You'll learn how to identify safe native and garden plants, how to harvest them, and how to brew them into a tea. It's a hands-on look at the plants that grow around us and how to turn them into something you can actually drink.
There are a few practical things to keep in mind before you sign up. The Arboretum asks that you wear clothes you don't mind getting messy and dress for the weather, so think more "garden work" than "afternoon tea party." The class is for ages 12 and up, and any minors need to be accompanied by an adult. The Arboretum itself is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that relies on donations to support its nature education and conservation programs for Houstonians of all ages.
