A night of culture and remembrance in Downtown Houston with live music, a market, workshops, and a community ofrenda.
Una Noche en Downtown takes over Market Square Park on Friday, October 30, from 5 PM to 10 PM. It's part of the wider DĂa de los Muertos celebration running across downtown Houston, which the organizers describe as a night of culture, community, and remembrance. The park is at 301 Milam St, right in the heart of downtown.
The stage program runs through the evening: live music from the Leslie Lugo Band, mariachi and ballet folklĂłrico performances, and free face painting. Along Preston Street, there's a mercado to browse, and Young Audiences of Houston will be running hands-on workshops. Beside the stage, a community ofrenda gathers offerings for departed pets and loved ones, so you can bring something to leave there if you're in the mood.
The evening doesn't stay inside the park. It spills over onto the nearby Main Street Promenade, where street performers, games, seating, and illuminated DĂa de los Muertos installations link one destination to another. The whole thing is organized by Downtown Houston+ and funded in part by the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance.

It's one piece of a larger seasonal program. Illuminated calacas have been lighting up the Main Street Promenade since October 16, and local shops are competing in a Fall Storefront Decor Contest. The neighborhood's signature celebration is at Discovery Green, featuring a community ofrenda by Houston artist Angel Quesada and a tribute concert to Houston and Texas musicians. The weekend culminates in the sixth annual DĂa de los Muertos Festival and Parade at Sam Houston Park, one of the city's most established DĂa traditions. Una Noche en Downtown runs from 5 PM to 10 PM on Friday, October 30, at Market Square Park.
