Interactive story time with students from Kinder HSPVA reading 'The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System', with Miss Frizzle as the costumed character, plus crafts and activities.
Discovery Green is hosting another Toddler Tuesday on Tuesday, October 6, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Cullen Veranda. This week's theme is The Magic School Bus, and the morning centers on an interactive story time where students from Kinder HSPVA read The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System. Miss Frizzle will be there as the costumed character, so the kids get to see her in person while the story goes.
Toddler Tuesday is a weekly series at Discovery Green, the 12-acre park in downtown Houston run by a public-private partnership between the City of Houston and the non-profit Discovery Green Conservancy. The park opened in April 2008 and has seen more than 20 million visitors since then, with hundreds of events each year. These sessions are for toddlers and their caregivers, built around an interactive story time meant to get little ones into reading and imagination. Students from Kinder High School for the Visual and Performing Arts lead the reading, and a costumed character shows up every week. Each morning has its own theme, and the story is just one part of the morning.
Beyond the reading, there are crafts, activities, and soft play equipment from Toddler Towns for the kids to climb on. Collab Lab is also involved, and everyone walks away with a book donated by the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation. The series brings together a few regular community partners: Baylor College of Medicine, the Collaborative for Children (Collab Lab), Frame Dance, and Kinder HSPVA.
