Concert by the alt-reggae band The Movement at White Oak Music Hall.
The Movement play White Oak Music Hall on Saturday, March 6, 2027. They're an alt-reggae band that's been around since 2003, and they've spent the last two decades building a following around a sound that pulls from Sublime, 311, Slightly Stoopid and John Brown's Body. They call themselves 'reggae shapeshifters,' and that's a fair description: the core is built on insightful lyrics and a heavy drum-and-bass foundation, but they're not tied to one specific corner of the genre.
On stage, it's a five-piece. Founding member Joshua Swain handles lead vocals and guitar; Jason Schmidt is on bass; Gary Jackson is on drums; Matt Goodwin plays keyboards and other instruments; and Kyle Jerome adds saxophone and percussion. That mix of keys and sax is a big part of why they don't sound like a standard reggae outfit.
They've put out nine studio albums. Their seventh, Ways Of The World (2019), debuted at number one on the Billboard Reggae Chart and stayed in the Top 10 for more than 40 consecutive weeks. Their ninth, VISIONS, came out July 18, 2025, on their own R4RE Records imprint. That record features collaborations with Stick Figure, The Elovaters, 311, Tribal Seeds and The Green, so it brings in a lot of the same names they've cited as influences over the years.
