A concert by The King's Singers featuring a programme of songs about food, ranging from Renaissance kitchens to the fast-food counter, performed a cappella.
The King's Singers are back at the Cullen Theater in the Wortham Center on Friday, February 5, 2027, at 7:30 PM. The concert is called Food, Glorious Food, and it's part of Performing Arts Houston's Admiral Transfer Music Series. This is their fifth Houston appearance since 1985.
The whole evening is built for six voices and no instruments. The program is a prix fixe menu of songs about food that runs from Renaissance kitchens to the fast-food counter, served in courses and closing with an 'Omakase'—Japanese for 'I'll leave it up to the chef.' It blends early choral works, contemporary compositions, and popular songs, taking its name from a well-known musical number. The Times called it 'mellifluously and flawlessly performed.'
The ensemble consists of countertenors Patrick Dunachie and Edward Button, tenor Julian Gregory, baritones Christopher Bruerton and Nick Ashby, and bass Jonathan Howard. They've spent more than six decades singing close harmony, a sound they've carried since they were founded at King's College, Cambridge, in 1968. Along the way, they've picked up two Grammy Awards.
