Poet Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer guides participants in reading and writing poems that reflect on the gifts of aging.
Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer leads a poetry workshop at The Jung Center of Houston on Tuesday, October 6. The session is titled The Gift of Perspective: Writing to Explore and Honor Aging, and it's built around reading and writing poems that look at the gifts of getting older.
If you've never been, The Jung Center of Houston is a nonprofit art gallery and educational institute. Its work draws on Jungian psychology, archetypal ideas, and C.G. Jung's Red Book, Liber Novus. This workshop fits right into that context: the Center runs a program that invites people to embrace the journey of aging through poetry and creative exploration, offering new ways to reflect on life's stories, deepen self-understanding, and celebrate the wisdom that comes with time. Trommer's session is one part of that larger conversation.
During the workshop, Trommer guides the group through reading and writing poems that reflect on the gifts of aging. It's a hands-on session, so you'll be doing both: reading work that touches on the subject and then writing your own. The focus is on the gifts that come with getting older, rather than the losses, and using poetry as a way to explore and honor that shift. It's less about polishing a final piece and more about the process of looking at your own life and the passage of time from a different angle.
