A mobile concert hall truck brings piano performances by Chloe and Chelsea de Souza to an outdoor setting in Houston.
The Concert Truck pulls into The DeLUXE Theater on Saturday, October 10, for a free performance that lasts about an hour. The whole thing is presented by Performing Arts Houston as part of their 60th-anniversary "diamond" season, which they're calling their biggest yet—41 performances across dance, music, theater, comedy, and family programming.
If you've never heard of it, the truck is exactly what it sounds like: a 16-foot box truck that opens up into a working concert hall, complete with a piano, lights, and a sound system. It's led by Artistic Director Susan Zhang and has toured the country playing city streets, schools, parks, and festivals. Its online children's program, made with the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival, has reached more than 55,000 students in North Carolina schools.
For the Houston stop, the piano is handled by Chloe and Chelsea de Souza. Both were born and raised in Mumbai. Chloe is a DACAMERA Young Artist Program fellow whose playing The Herald called "probing, powerful"; Chelsea is a Steinway Young Artist and a four-time winner of the All-India Piano Competition. They'll be performing under Susan Zhang's direction.
