An exhibition and sale of handcrafted candelabras, holders, and wax-based forms by artists working in clay, glass, and wax, presented by Asher: Off the Wall.
The Candle Show opens at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft on Wednesday, October 7, as part of the HCCC's 25th anniversary of illuminating contemporary craft. It's presented by Asher: Off the Wall, and the whole thing is built around a single, simple subject: candlelight. The show brings together artists who work with handcrafted candelabras, holders, and wax-based forms, focusing on the ritual and material poetics of light.
What you'll find inside is a mix of clay, glass, and wax. The artists are working in those three materials to shape the light itself, so the focus is as much on the objects as it is on how they hold a flame. It's staged as an in-person show and sale inside the HCCC retail space, meaning you can buy the work you're looking at. The lineup features Asher: Off the Wall, with work by Gabo Martinez, Jessica Ninci, and Meryl Pataky.
