Texas Southern's homecoming football game and the 19th SWAC meeting between the two rivals, with former NFL star Marshall Faulk on the sidelines.
Texas Southern and Southern University meet at Reliant Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 24, for a homecoming game that's about more than just the score. It's the 19th Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) meeting between the two rivals, and Texas Southern holds the most recent edge, having won 35-30 the last time they faced off. Lone Star Sports & Entertainment is presenting the game.
It's a homecoming game for Texas Southern, which means the atmosphere goes beyond the field. Dr. Paula L. Jackson, Texas Southern's interim vice president of athletics, noted that the two historic institutions bring together their teams, bands, cheerleaders, alumni, and diehard fans. LSSE general manager David Fletcher has called it one of the most meaningful contests in HBCU football.
The sidelines bring their own story. Texas Southern head coach Cris Dishman faces off against Southern head coach Marshall Faulk, a Pro Football Hall of Famer who took over on Dec. 1, 2025, after the Jaguars finished 2-10 that season. Texas Southern comes into the matchup having finished 6-5 overall, with a 5-3 record in conference play.
