A laid-back recreational co-ed softball league for beginners at Memorial Park, with playtime from 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
Sportsmonkey is kicking off its 2026 Fall Super Recreational Co-Ed Softball league at Memorial Park, with the first games starting Sunday, September 20. The season runs for five weeks, with games on September 20, 27, October 4, 11, 18, and 25, and a final week of playoffs to follow. Each team plays a doubleheader regular season, so you'll get ten games over those five Sundays. Playtime runs from 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
The "Super Recreational" label is the key here. It's built for a fun, laid-back atmosphere and aimed at players with little to no experience with the sport, rather than as a spillover league from the more competitive Memorial 2/3 divisions. On the field, teams put out six men and four women at all times, and while a roster of 15 players is suggested, it's not mandatory. The entry fee covers a paid umpire, 2026 City registration, and prizes for the winners, though teams have to provide their own game balls.
The games take place at Memorial Park Field 1, 1001 E Memorial Loop Dr, in the heart of Houston. The park itself spans 1,500 acres — nearly twice the size of Central Park — and holds a unique piece of history: it's the only former WWI training camp in the United States that remains undeveloped, preserved as an archaeologically protected site. It was once Camp Logan, where 70,000 soldiers trained, and where Seymour Lieberman popularized jogging nationally; the park's jogging trail still bears his name.
