An all-black painting and poetry night for goths, hosted by MERGE Art Studio, to celebrate Halloween.
MERGE Art Studio is hosting Sip and Create Goth Night at Deutser Studios on Saturday, October 10, from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. It's an all-black painting and poetry session meant to welcome Halloween and the spooky season, and the organizers are encouraging everyone to show up in their spookiest outfits. The challenge for the night is to create artwork that pairs dark poetry with the color black or a very dark grey.
Artist Leslie Archibald will be leading the session, so you'll have someone guiding the room through the painting and the poetry. The whole thing is hosted by Holly Lyn Walrath. If you've never done a painting night before, this is a low-stakes way to get into it, especially with a specific theme to work around rather than staring at a blank canvas.
The setting fits the mood. Deutser Studios is a preserved historic building in the heart of downtown Houston's warehouse district, once home to the B. Deutser Furniture Company. These days it houses Station Theater and the work of many local visual artists, and it's within reach of Sawyer Yards, East River, and the Fifth Ward Cultural Arts District. It's the kind of space that makes a themed night like this feel right at home.
