Scott Cook, an Alberta balladeer known for his keenly observant verse and extensive touring, performs live at Kojak's in Houston.
Scott Cook plays Kojak's on Thursday, October 15, at 7 PM. He's a balladeer from Edmonton, Alberta, and he'll be the only name on the bill.
Cook has spent a long time on the road. Between 2007 and 2020 he toured almost without stopping across Canada, the US, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, averaging around 150 shows and a dozen summer festivals a year. Along the way he released seven albums of straight-talking, keenly observant verse. His latest collection, Tangle of Souls, is a cloth-bound, 240-page hardcover of road stories and ruminations that spent two weeks at number one on CKUA, Alberta's province-wide community radio network. One track from that period, "Say Can You See," was the second most-played song of 2020 on Folk Alliance International's folk radio charts.
He's picked up a few awards and nominations along the way. He's been twice nominated for Canadian Folk Music Awards and won the Folk and Acoustic category in the UK Songwriting Contest in 2013 and 2020. He also took the Folk and Americana category in the 2020 Great American Song Contest, was a Kerrville New Folk Finalist in 2018 and 2021, and was Falcon Ridge Folk Festival's Most Wanted Artist in 2019. He signed with Fleming Artists in 2021 and is back on the road.
