Organist Roger Sayer performs music from the Interstellar soundtrack by Hans Zimmer on the historic Pillot Memorial Organ, with an audience Q&A.
Roger Sayer performs Interstellar 10 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church on Friday, October 9, at 7 PM. He'll be playing on the church's newly restored Pillot Memorial Organ, and the evening is presented with the Houston chapter of the American Guild of Organists. It also falls during World Space Week.
If the name Interstellar sounds familiar, it's because Sayer is the organist who played on the soundtrack for Christopher Nolan's 2014 film. He worked directly with composer Hans Zimmer during the recording; Zimmer called him to ask if the historic organ at London's Temple Church could take part, and Sayer became closely involved in developing the organ score. What started as a special project marking the film's tenth anniversary in 2024 has grown into an international concert tour that has drawn sold-out audiences worldwide, including a performance at London's St. Paul's Cathedral.
The program draws on music prepared for Interstellar Live at the Royal Albert Hall, pairing Zimmer's score with other space-themed works. The evening also includes an audience Q&A, where Sayer shares stories from the making of the soundtrack. It's a concert, not a screening, so there won't be a showing of the film.
