ROCO's 22nd season concert with guest conductor Rei Hotoda leading a 40-piece chamber orchestra, featuring world premiere by Jessica Meyer.
ROCO is bringing its full chamber orchestra to The Ismaili Center Houston for two back-to-back performances this November. The concert is titled Fellow Travelers, and it marks the ensemble's debut at the center. The 40-piece orchestra will be led by guest conductor Rei Hotoda, who's taking the podium for both dates.
One of the highlights of the program is a world premiere by Jessica Meyer, a new work commissioned by ROCO that will get its first hearing here. That's the kind of thing the orchestra does regularly: pairing classical favorites and hidden gems with original pieces they've commissioned themselves. The whole thing falls under the Albert and Margaret Alkek Foundation In Concert Series, which ROCO's artistic partner Delyana Lazarova leads. The series is built around bringing in guest conductors from around the world to lead the full 40-piece ensemble, so Hotoda is the latest in that rotation.

Because it's a debut for the orchestra at the Ismaili Center, these are the first times you'll hear them play in that space. The two performances are on Saturday, November 14, at 5 PM and Sunday, November 15, at 2 PM. If you're deciding between the two, the Saturday show is in the late afternoon and the Sunday one is a matinee, so you can pick whichever fits your weekend better.
