A performance exploring African dance, music and storytelling through the customs and traditions of Mzansi, presented by Young Audiences of Houston.
Riddles and Customs of Mzansi comes to Miller Outdoor Theatre on Tuesday, October 27, at 11 AM. It's presented by Young Audiences of Houston, and the performance is led by Village Elder and Keeper of Customs Mama Lindi.
The show opens the world of Mzansi through African dance, music, and storytelling, following the customs, wisdom, and traditions passed down through generations. It's a morning performance, so it's a good one to bring the kids along for.
Young Audiences of Houston is the organization behind it, and they frame their work around three pillars—Access, Education, and Community—with a focus on equitable opportunities for children and families to learn, create, and connect through the arts. This production fits right into that mission.

The venue adds its own history to the mix. Miller Outdoor Theatre was founded in 1923 and sits on about 7.5 acres of Hermann Park, serving as Houston's premier outdoor venue for the performing arts. Its repertoire runs from classical music and jazz to ethnic music and dance, ballet, Shakespeare, musical theatre, and classic films. Covered seating holds 1,705 patrons plus 20 wheelchair spaces, and the sloping lawn fits around 4,500 more on blankets or lawn chairs. All performances are free, though covered seating requires a ticket. The show starts at 11 AM on October 27, and admission is free.
