Rice Owls women's volleyball face the Wichita State Shockers in a Friday night match at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Rice women's volleyball take on Wichita State at Tudor Fieldhouse this Friday, October 9, at 6 PM. It's one of two conference matches the Owls are hosting back-to-back at Tudor, so if you're planning to catch the volleyball action this weekend, this is the first of the two.
Rice enters the match with an 8-8 overall record and a 2-2 mark in conference play. They started the season on a five-match winning streak, their best start since 2019 when they opened 9-0. Since then, they've picked up six Top 25 victories, and the last time they beat two ranked opponents in a single season was 2015, when they took down No. 22 WKU and No. 23 Colorado. Wichita State comes in at 4-12 overall and 1-3 in the conference, so Rice is the favorite heading into this one. They also hold the series lead, 8-3.
Behind the team is head coach Genny Volpe, now in her 23rd season. She's the school's all-time leader in total wins with 442 and holds the record for winning percentage at .653. It's a good time to get familiar with the squad, because Rice is hosting the American Conference Championship at Tudor Fieldhouse from November 20 to 22, after winning the 2025 regular-season title.
