Country and Americana concert by Pug Johnson at McGonigels Mucky Duck.
Pug Johnson plays McGonigel's Mucky Duck on Friday, October 23. He's a country and Americana songwriter who grew up on the outskirts of Beaumont, where Cajun music, swamp pop, Tex-Mex, and honky tonk shaped his writing. He fronted early bands like Slow Rollin' Lows before forming Pug Johnson and The Hounds, the group that helped him find his voice.
His debut album, Throwed Off and Glad, drew on that Gulf Coast upbringing. The follow-up, El Cabron, leaned further into the Hill Country after he and his wife moved to the Austin area, adding mariachi guitars and border music to the mix. Lonesome Highway praised his songwriting for exploring life's darker side with high spirits and wicked humor. He's shared stages with Steve Earle, Midland, and Hayes Carll.
