A six-week in-person poetry workshop for aspiring writers at Inprint House, led by local author Mathew Weitman.
Inprint House is hosting a poetry workshop starting Wednesday, October 14, and it's one of those things that takes a bit of time rather than a single night. It runs for six weeks, meeting every Wednesday from 6 PM to 9 PM, so you'll be spending a few hours a week with the same group of people throughout the fall.
If you're not familiar with how these work, they're modeled on graduate-level creative writing courses. Each week you'll read published poets, critique each other's work, and get written comments back from the instructor. It's a cycle of reading, writing, and feedback that keeps moving for the full six weeks. The sessions are open to writers of all backgrounds, and you don't need any prior experience to join in.
Inprint's workshops are led by accomplished local authors, including students, alumni, and faculty from the University of Houston Creative Writing Program. The Houston Press has called them the city's "Best Place for Aspiring Writers," and that's a fair description of the setup: you're working with people who are active in the local writing community and who know the craft from the inside. The workshops run either online via Zoom or in person at Inprint House, and they usually last between six and ten weeks.
