Concert by American singer-songwriter and guitarist Peter Case at McGonigel's Mucky Duck.
Peter Case plays McGonigel's Mucky Duck on Thursday, October 15, at 8:30 PM. It's a solo bill, so it's just him up there.
If you're not familiar with the name, Case is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist born in Buffalo, New York, in 1954. He's spent a few decades moving between bands and solo work, and he's often credited as one of the first of his generation to shift from rock toward an acoustic style. That shift helped shape the Americana sound as a whole.
His band history goes back to the new wave era. In 1976 he co-founded The Nerves, whose single "Hanging on the Telephone" was later recorded by Blondie. In 1980 he formed the pop-rock group The Plimsouls, known for the garage-rock standard "A Million Miles Away." He went solo in 1986 with a self-titled debut produced by T-Bone Burnett, which The New York Times called the best album of 1986 and which earned a five-star Rolling Stone review and a Grammy nomination. He followed that with a second solo disc in 1989.

Since then, he's continued as a solo performer, drawing on the blues and folk traditions of artists like Memphis Minnie, Sleepy John Estes, Bob Dylan and Neil Young. He's also spent time as a musicologist, curating the musical program for the Getty Museum in Los Angeles in the late 1990s.
It's a solo show at McGonigel's Mucky Duck on Thursday, October 15, starting at 8:30 PM.
