A reinterpretation of Dante's Divine Comedy through aerial acrobatics, dance and multimedia artistry, with performers appearing to float and fly above the stage.
NoGravity Theatre brings Divine Comedy Reloaded to the Cullen Theater at the Wortham Center on Friday, April 23, and Saturday, April 24, 2027. Both shows start at 7:30 PM. It's part of the Tudor Family Dance Series, and the company is Italian.
The show is a retelling of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, running from Inferno through Purgatorio and up to Paradiso. Instead of actors on a stage, the story is told through a mix of dance, acrobatics, and multimedia. The dancers spend a lot of the show off the floorโfloating, flying, and coming together in midair to form figures that would be impossible on solid ground. The aerial choreography and visual effects turn the stage into a canvas of vertical and horizontal planes, so the action moves up and down as much as it does across.
Behind it is choreographer Emiliano Pellisari, who works at the intersection of dance, illusion, and circus. He describes his stagecraft as descended from Baroque theater machinery, and the resulting world is one he calls "Magritte and Escher by way of Dante." La Repubblica called it a "waking dream, engineered."
