Musiqa presents new chamber music and poetry by emerging composers, celebrating Luna Composition Lab's 10th anniversary.
Musiqa and Inprint are bringing New Voices to Matchbox 1 on Saturday, October 10, for an evening of new chamber music paired with poetry. This year's edition marks the 10th anniversary of Luna Composition Lab, which supports women, non-binary, and gender non-conforming composers. The music is performed by a small ensemble—Nanki Chugh on violin, Caio Diniz on cello, Zhu Zhu on piano, and Maiko Sasaki on clarinet—and the poetry is commissioned specifically for the occasion.
The program draws from five composers. Miami-born tresero Rolando GĂłmez brings The Two Clocks, which won the Cross-Country Chamber Consortium's Black, Latinx and Indigenous Emerging Composer Commission, a partnership of five ensembles across the country. Justin Weiss premieres A Line Becoming, and Jaylin Vinson performs This Saturated City, which received Musiqa's 2025 Catalyst Commission. KiMani Bridges contributes Pith for solo piano, and Joanna McDonald is also on the bill. The music runs alongside poetry commissioned for the night, so the two are woven together rather than presented as separate acts.
