Musical comedy Mrs. Doubtfire, presented by Theatre Under the Stars, at The Hobby Center.
Mrs. Doubtfire opens at The Hobby Center on Tuesday, October 13, and runs through Sunday, October 25. Theatre Under the Stars is presenting the musical comedy based on the movie, and it's a full run: Tuesday through Sunday, with two shows on Saturdays and Sundays. The show runs 2 hours and 35 minutes, including intermission.
If you know the movie, you know the story: an out-of-work actor goes to extreme lengths to stay in his kids' lives, eventually disguising himself as a British housekeeper. The book is by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O'Farrell, with music and lyrics from Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick. Jerry Zaks signed the original direction, and Steve Edlund is handling the tour direction, with tour choreography by Michaeljon Slinger based on Lorin Latarro's original. This is the second North American Tour, produced and general managed by Work Light Productions under license from Music Theatre International. Time Out called it a "genuinely funny musical comedy," and the Chicago Tribune described it as "the lovable, big-hearted musical comedy we need right now."
On stage, Craig Allen Smith plays Daniel Hillard, with Melissa Campbell as Miranda Hillard, Alanis Sophia as Lydia Hillard, and Brian Kalinowski as Frank Hillard. Chaz Ingraham plays Chef Louis and also understudies Mrs. Doubtfire. The Hobby Center is on Bagby Street in downtown Houston.
