The Houston Symphony presents Mozart's Symphony No. 41 'Jupiter' alongside Steven Mackey's 'Aluminum Flowers' performed by the guitar sensation JIJI, with conductors Juraj ValÄuha and David Robertson.
The Houston Symphony brings Mozart's Symphony No. 41 ('Jupiter') to Jones Hall for a three-date run starting Friday, October 16. It's part of the orchestra's 2026-27 season under Music Director Juraj ValÄuha, which also features Seong-Jin Cho, Joe Hisaishi, and Hilary Hahn.
The program pairs the Mozart with two other works. Stravinsky's Symphonies of Wind Instruments (1947) opens the night, followed by Aluminum Flowers, a concerto for both classical and electric guitar by Steven Mackey. That one is performed by the guitarist JIJI, whom The Washington Post named one of twenty-one composers and performers who "sound like tomorrow," describing her as fusing rock 'n' roll cool with stunning virtuosity. The Post also described the Jupiter symphony as sounding "like tomorrow," which is the thread that ties the two together.
On the podium, you'll find Music Director Juraj ValÄuha and conductor David Robertson. The whole thing runs about 85 minutes with a 20-minute intermission, and it's recommended for ages 6 and over.
