Live performance by the Texas rock, Americana, soul and blues band Midnight River Choir at McGonigel's Mucky Duck.
Midnight River Choir play McGonigel's Mucky Duck on Friday, October 30, at 8:30 PM. They're a New Braunfels band, so they're coming up from the Hill Country to play this one in Houston.
Their name has a story behind it. It started when four strangers ended up on a late-night float trip down the Guadalupe River. As they sang, their harmonies drifted over the sleeping campers, and the next morning a man told a friend he'd been awakened by a midnight river choir. The band adopted the name and has been playing ever since.
On stage, it's George Talbert on drums and vocals, Bob Driver III on bass and vocals, and Eric Middleton on guitar and lead vocals. They pull from a few different traditions—rock, Texas groove, Americana, soul, and blues—and they describe themselves as a force of nature, drawing on a strong thread of energy both on and off stage that they channel into their live shows. They also believe that what you get is what you give.
