Aperio, Music of the Americas presents a free evening concert of Argentinean tango, Brazilian samba and American minimalism.
Aperio, Music of the Americas brings Midnight in Blue: Samba, Strings & Tango to Miller Outdoor Theatre on Friday, October 9, at 7:30 PM. It's a free evening concert that pulls together Argentinean tango, Brazilian samba and American minimalism, with the whole thing livestreamed if you can't make it in person.
The program weaves those three styles together, drawing on works by Astor Piazzolla, Michael Torke and Aaron Copland. You'll hear the hypnotic pulses of tango and samba sitting alongside the cleaner lines of American minimalism, and the set runs about two hours. On stage, Aperio is joined by soloists Michael Zuraw on piano, Daniel Saenz on cello and Ernesto Vega on clarinet, with Music Director Maestro Marlon Chen conducting.
Aperio is a Houston-based ensemble that focuses on staging unusual chamber music, with a particular eye on contemporary composers from across the Americas. Midnight in Blue fits right into thatβit's a program that looks south to Argentina and Brazil and then back north to the US, bringing those different traditions into the same room. If you're into chamber music that doesn't stick to the usual repertoire, this is exactly the kind of thing they do.
