A holiday cabaret show by Meow Meow featuring vintage showbiz, Weimar-era songs, French chanson and audience interaction, billed as the grown-ups' Christmas show.
Meow Meow brings her holiday cabaret, Meow Meow's Feline Festive, to the Cullen Theater at the Wortham Center on December 18 and 19. It's a two-night run in Houston, and the set is built around the kind of cabaret she's known for: vintage showbiz, wicked Weimar-era songs, French chanson, and her own originals, all backed by a live band. She's also famous for her audience encounters, so expect her to work the room as much as the stage.
It's billed as 'the grown-ups' Christmas show,' and that's a fair warning. There's mild innuendo and audience participation throughout, and it's recommended for ages 12 and up. If you're looking for a traditional, family-friendly holiday recital, this isn't itβit's more of a late-night cabaret that happens to land in December.
Meow Meow has a long history of playing the big rooms. She's sung with the London, LA, and Sydney Philharmonics, and has played the Sydney Opera House, the Hollywood Bowl, and Carnegie Hall. She recorded Hotel Amour with Pink Martini's Thomas Lauderdale, which The London Times named one of its top albums of 2019. Her work has been commissioned by David Bowie, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Pina Bausch, and a Berliner Zeitung review once said she 'catapults the genre of Entertainment into a hitherto unknown dimension.'
