A shadow puppetry performance by Manual Cinema, adapting the story of Macbeth with live music and actors in silhouette.
Manual Cinema brings The 4th Witch to Jesse H. Jones Hall on Wednesday, October 28, at 7:30 PM. It's a new story built from the world of Macbeth: on the eve of an invasion, a girl flees a warlord's army into a dark forest, where a witch takes her in as an apprentice. As her craft grows, so do her grief and rage, pulling her toward vengeance against the man who killed her parents.
Manual Cinema tells it their way, and that's a big part of the draw. They use shadow puppets, actors in silhouette, and live music, with the film assembled in full view as the audience watches. You're seeing the movie being made in real time, not just the finished product projected on a screen. The company won an Emmy for this craft, and a New York Times review called it "a dark work, full of pain and loss, but the darkness lifts."
