Swampy country-rock band Louisiana Surf Department live at The Continental Club in Houston.
Louisiana Surf Department are back at The Continental Club on Friday, October 16. They're an Austin-based country-rock band that describes its sound as swampy, and they'll be playing a full set as the night's main feature.
The band formed on January 1, 2024, around John Core on lead vocals and electric guitar. Core first met drummer Brian Bounds in Sedona, Arizona, back in 2020, and the two stayed in touch until a chance reunion in Louisiana solidified their friendship and set the stage for the group. Bassist James T. Carter joined the trio on bass and backing vocals, and later Markus "Shudawgy" Williams—known as "Young Man"—became a full member, adding guitar, musicality, and his world-renowned hang to the mix. Between the two guitars, the bass, and the drums, they've built a sound that leans into that swampy country-rock they're known for.
