Concert by folk and ranchera singer Lisa Morales at McGonigel's Mucky Duck.
Lisa Morales plays McGonigel's Mucky Duck on Saturday, November 7, with the show starting at 8:30 PM. She's a singer-songwriter whose work sits across folk, folk rock, Americana and rock, and this is a headlining date in Houston.
Morales grew up in Tucson singing mariachi songs with her sister Roberta in restaurants and at family gatherings, with boleros and Sonoran rancheras as the soundtrack. She describes Mexican music as the fiber of who she is. She built an international following as half of Sisters Morales before launching a solo career in 2011. While most of her original writing has been in English, she's said the songs go deeper in Spanish.
That shift came through in her second solo album, 2018's Luna Negra and the Daughter of the Sun, which pushed further into Spanglish. Her fourth solo album, Sonora, came out on September 13, 2024, on Luna Records. Between the English-language songwriting and the Spanish roots, her music pulls from folk, folk rock, Americana and rock.
