A night of Gulf Coast music with Kevin Anthony & G-Town at Shady Acres Saloon, blending country, Cajun, blues and swamp pop.
Kevin Anthony & G-Town play Shady Acres Saloon on Saturday, November 7, starting at 8:30 PM. They're a Galveston band, and they bring a sound that's hard to pin to one spot on the map: a mix of country, Cajun, blues, Mexican, and swamp pop that they call the 'Gulf Coast Sound.' They describe it as music for dancing, drinking, and having fun with friends and family.
That description fits the way they work. They sing in English, French, and Spanish, and the different styles they pull from—Cajun, Mexican, country—all show up in the same set. It's a sound that reflects the coast they come from, and they've built a following around it. That work has earned them nominations in five categories at the Texas Country Music Awards, along with the Prix des hors from the Cajun French Music Association.
They've also looked back at the roots of the music they play. The group recorded a tribute album to Harry Choates, the 'God Father of Cajun Music,' which they titled Eh Ha Ha. If you're not familiar with Choates, he was a huge figure in the Cajun scene, and the album is a direct nod to that lineage.
