Poets Victoria Chang and Adrian Matejka read from their new collections, followed by a conversation, book sale and signing.
Victoria Chang and Adrian Matejka read at Congregation Emanu El on Monday, February 8, 2027, at 7:30 PM. It's part of the 2026/2027 Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series, which pairs visiting authors with on-stage conversations led by local writers.
Chang reads from Tree of Knowledge, her new collection. She comes to the bill with OBIT, a New York Times Notable Book that won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and made the National Book Award longlist; for this new work, she draws on the image of a felled eucalyptus tree. Matejka reads from Be Easy: New & Selected Poems, a collection that brings together fresh poems alongside his earlier work. He's a Pulitzer Prize finalist and the editor-in-chief of Poetry magazine, and his new poems complicate place, race, and identity in present-day America.
The reading is followed by an on-stage conversation led by a local author or journalist, and then a book sale and signing. It's the same format the series uses throughout the season: the authors read first, then they talk, and you can get their books signed afterward.
