Emily St. John Mandel reads from her novel 'Exit Party', followed by a conversation, book sale and signing.
Emily St. John Mandel is coming to the Alley Theatre on Monday, January 25, 2027, at 7:30 PM. She'll be reading from her new novel, Exit Party, which is the focus of the evening. After she reads, there's an on-stage conversation led by a local author/journalist, and the night wraps up with a book sale and a signing. The whole thing is part of the 2026/2027 Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series.
If you're not familiar with her work, Mandel is the award-winning author of the bestseller Station Eleven, which was a finalist for both a National Book Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award, won the 2015 Arthur C. Clarke Award, and was adapted as a limited series on HBO Max. She's written seven novels in total, including Sea of Tranquility, which has been translated into 25 languages and made one of President Barack Obama's favorite books of 2022. Exit Party is the newest addition to that list.
There's already some talk about what Exit Party is. Library Journal described it as a dystopian novel that explores what is lost in a rush to safety, and Kirkus Reviews called it her best novel since Station Eleven. Between the reading, the conversation, and the signing, you'll get to hear the work and then talk about it with the author herself.
