Inprint Cool Brains! Series presents Elizabeth Acevedo

Elizabeth Acevedo comes to Meyerland Performing and Visual Arts Middle School on Sunday, October 18, as part of the Inprint Cool Brains! Series. She's here to present her new young adult novel, Anger Is Only a Shadow, which she's written in both prose and poetry.

If you're not familiar with her work, Acevedo is a National Book Award winner and a New York Times bestseller whose YA novels blend poetry, humor, and heart. Her debut, The Poet X, took home the National Book Award for Young People's Literature, the Michael L. Printz Award, the Pura Belpré Award, the Carnegie medal, the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, and the Walter Award. She also wrote With the Fire on High and Clap When You Land. Beyond the books, she's a National Poetry Slam Champion and served as the 2022 Young People's Poet Laureate.

The session goes beyond just a reading. It includes a Q&A with Houston writer Jasminne Mendez and a pre-show performance by the Meta4 Houston youth slam poetry team, so there's poetry on the bill from the start. Afterward, there's a meet-the-author book sale and signing if you want to get a copy signed in person.

It's free and open to the public, and the first 100 families get a free copy of Anger Is Only a Shadow. If you're bringing a student group, Restorative Houston bus scholarships are available: full scholarships for public schools and partial ones for private schools, based on availability. The event is at 10410 Manhattan Drive, Houston, TX 77096, starting at 2 PM, with doors opening at 1:30 PM.
