Drop-in dance lesson and social dancing session for Lindy Hop, open to all skill levels with no partner required.
Houston Swing Dance Society holds its Sunday night social at Everton Hall, 110 Milby St. Suite A1, with the entrance on Everton Street. It's a regular fixture for the city's swing scene, and this Sunday is no different: a drop-in class from 7 PM to 7:30 PM, followed by social dancing from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM. You don't need a partner or any prior experience to join in.
The drop-in class is designed for beginners, teaching quick and easy material to get everyone on the floor on their first night. If you're looking for something more long-term, the society also runs a Level 1-3 progressive Lindy Hop curriculum that takes about nine months to a year to work through. Between the two, you can start with a single Sunday and decide if you want to stick with it.
Behind the scenes, the Houston Swing Dance Society is a volunteer-run community of instructors, DJs, and front-desk attendants who give their time because they love Lindy Hop. Its lead coordinator is Alesandra Bull, who is also the force behind Lindyfest. The Sunday night isn't their only offering, either: they host a monthly Friday event, a monthly Saturday event, and open practices every Thursday. They also rent the space to other dancers for social dances, workshops, and private lessons.
