Free open-air yoga class with music and spoken word, part of the Fitness in the Park series.
Alicia Dugar Stephenson leads a session of Hip Hop Yoga at Discovery Green on Wednesday, October 14, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. It's part of the park's Fitness in the Park series, presented by UTHealth Houston, and it's open to all fitness levels, so you don't need to be a regular at the studio to join in.
The session is billed as Hip Hop Yoga Vibes & Spoken Word Flow, and that's a pretty good description of what to expect. It's an open-air class where movement, music, and spoken word run together rather than sitting side by side. Stephenson brings a specific energy to it: she mixes in lighthearted humor, cultural rhythm, and a poetic presence, and she describes the whole thing as a celebration of joy, community, and the gift of being alive. If you want to see more of her work before you go, she's on Instagram as @afroyogaqueen.

The class takes place on the Anheuser-Busch Stage, an outdoor concert venue with the downtown Houston skyline as its backdrop. That's where the Fitness in the Park series holds its weekly sessions, so this is one of several free classes the park offers throughout the season. Since it's outside, you'll want to bring a few things with you: a yoga mat, a towel, and some water. The class is free, though registration is requested on site. It runs from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, October 14, at the Anheuser-Busch Stage in Discovery Green.
