A beginner-friendly cake decorating workshop where attendees learn to decorate a mini vintage heart cake with Halloween themes.
Lyric Market is hosting a Halloween Heart Cake Decorating Experience on Wednesday, October 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. It's a cake decorating class for beginners, so you don't need to have ever touched a piping bag to join in. The focus is on a mini vintage heart cake, and you'll work on it from start to finish, which means you'll walk away with a completed cake rather than just a few tips. All the materials are provided, so you just show up and get to work.
If you haven't spent much time there, Lyric Market is a food hall in Downtown Houston's Theater District that opened in October 2022. It takes up an entire city block, with nine food stalls and a bar, a 7,500-square-foot deck, a communal plaza, a street-side terrace, and private event space. Among the vendors are Dorado Sushi, Mexology, 1929 Po-Boy Kitchen, Press Waffle Co., Samurai Noodle, Kati Roll Wala, and Starbucks, with the Lyric Bar at the center serving house cocktails and spirits distilled right here in Houston. Live jazz fills the hall every Friday from 4 to 7 PM, so if you're in the neighborhood on a Friday, that's another reason to stop by.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Houston and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

The class itself is aimed at beginners, and the vintage heart cake is a specific style that's been popping up everywhere lately—lots of piped ruffles and a distinct, old-school look. Since it's a mini cake, it's a manageable project for a two-hour session. You'll go through the whole process from start to finish, and because all the materials are provided, there's nothing you need to bring with you. It runs from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on Wednesday, October 21, at Lyric Market, 411 Smith St, Downtown Houston.
