Go Puja celebration at ISKCON of Houston, commemorating Krishna lifting Govardhan Hill, with food offerings, kirtan, aarti and prasadam feast.
ISKCON of Houston is celebrating Govardhan Puja on Tuesday, November 10, as part of the temple's 40th anniversary. The festival, also known as Annakut, commemorates a story from the tenth Canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam: Krishna lifted Govardhan Hill in Vrindavan and balanced it on the tip of his finger for seven days and seven nights to shelter the residents and animals from a rainstorm sent by Lord Indra, who eventually surrendered to him.
The name Annakut comes from anna (grains) and kuta (mountain), and the tradition centers on cooking vast amounts of food offerings for the Deities. It falls the day after Diwali, and devotees are encouraged to prepare bhoga and bring it to the temple before 6 PM. The food should be made without garlic, onion, mushroom, or chocolate.

The evening follows with kirtan and aarti, an abhisekh of Sri Giriraj Govardhan, a discourse, and the annakut darshan and prasadam feast. It's one of the temple's 2026 festivals marking its 40th anniversary, so it's part of a larger year of celebrations. If you're planning to bring bhoga, just keep that 6 PM deadline in mind.
