Film screening of Stages, a movie about two musicians on tour, at the River Oaks Theatre.
Stages screens at The River Oaks Theatre on Saturday, October 10. It's a documentary about two musicians on tour, and it's playing at 3:30 PM.
If you're not familiar with the venue, The River Oaks Theatre is at 2009 West Gray St. It first opened on November 28, 1939, and closed in 2021. Culinary Concepts and Star Cinema Grill bought it and reopened it on October 3, 2024, as Houston's premiere film and live events venue. The programming mixes art house titles, awards-worthy blockbusters, and classic cinema, and the space also hosts comedy shows, musicians, and performers. One thing that's different from your usual cinema: you order food and drink from your seat using a QR-code menu on the table.

The theatre leans into its history by pairing the latest independent cinema with long-running classics like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and by hosting film festivals. Stages fits into that independent side of the bill, following two musicians on the road. It's a 3:30 PM screening, so it's a matinee on a Saturday afternoon rather than a night out. If you're in the neighborhood on October 10, that's when it's playing.
