A family-friendly afternoon of art-making activities, live music, and a scavenger hunt inspired by the museum's current exhibitions.
Contemporary Arts Museum Houston is hosting its Fall Community Celebration on Saturday, October 10, from 1 PM to 4 PM. It's an all-ages afternoon of art-making and live music, and the whole thing is free.
The music comes from GOOD GRIEF and the Apollo Chamber Players, who'll be playing throughout the session. The art side of things is built around the museum's current exhibitions: Mary Ellen Carroll: How To Talk Dirty and Influence People and Divination: Beverly Buchanan & Dionne Lee. There are art-making activities inspired by those shows, a scavenger hunt, and a mindful observation exercise. You can also make a postcard that CAMH will mail out for you later.
If you're into film, the day doubles as a practical one: CAMH is one of the newest drop-off locations for film development through FLATS, so you can leave your rolls there while you're hanging around. The Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is a community partner on this oneโthey run art education programs for children, teens, and adults, offer civic engagement opportunities, and maintain the international Core Residency Program.
