Market with vendors, a fairy costume contest with a $100 prize, and DJs on the main stage at Axelrad Beer Garden.
Axelrad Beer Garden hosts the Fairy Market on Thursday, October 15, from 5 PM to 10 PM. Presented by 55th Heaven, the night takes over the main stage with a market of vendors, a fairy costume contest with a $100 prize, and DJs on the decks. It's a free event, so you can drop in whenever you're around.
If you haven't spent much time there, Axelrad is one of Houston's most beloved midtown bars, housed in the historic building that's stood at the corner of Alabama and Almeda for a century. It's a venue that doesn't stick to one lane: they book local, regional, and international artists across a long list of genres—jazz, soul, blues, hip hop, Latin, indie, electronic, experimental, world, ska, punk, pop, rock, and classical—and they run monthly residencies. There are two large outdoor music stages and one indoor stage, all equipped with pro sound and light production. Their weekly Jazz Nights even inspired the Live at Axelrad, Jazz Wednesdays vinyl compilation marking the venue's 10th anniversary, and they stage RADFEST, a three-day festival with more than 50 bands.

The Fairy Market fits right into that mix. You've got the vendors to browse, the DJs keeping the music going on the main stage, and the costume contest if you're feeling like dressing up for a shot at the $100 prize. It's open to all ages until 9 PM, when it becomes restricted to over-21s, so it's a good one to bring the kids to early in the evening. Entry is free, and the whole thing runs from 5 PM to 10 PM at 1517 Alabama St.
