Concert featuring the screamo and post-hardcore band Eyes Set to Kill, with support from Sicksense and Twist It.
Eyes Set to Kill are playing Scout Bar on Saturday, December 5, with Sicksense and Twist It opening. It's a full bill for the night, so you'll get a few different acts before the headliner takes the stage.
If you're not familiar with them, Eyes Set to Kill are a screamo and post-hardcore outfit from Phoenix, Arizona. They started out as a two-piece run by sisters Alexia Rodriguez on lead guitar and vocals and Anissa Rodriguez on bass. The whole idea from the jump was to pair soft, melodic female vocals with gut-wrenching screaming over heavy post-hardcore instrumentals. Former singer Lindsey Vogt later put it plainly: they didn't want to be the typical screamo band.
It took a little while to round out the lineup. After being ignored and turned down by sexist musicians, they found their missing pieces in early 2006 when Greg Kerwin joined on guitar, Brandon Anderson on vocals, and Caleb Clifton on drums. From there, they shared stages with Chiodos, Blessthefall, Goodbye Tomorrow, My American Heart, and Greeley Estates, and even did a stint on the Warped Tour. They've kept a do-it-yourself work ethic throughout, and they actually booked their first tour through MySpace.

That same energy carries over to the live show, which is how they first made a name for themselves. The set is built around that contrast they started with—the melodic vocals and the screaming side by side. Sicksense and Twist It open the night, so you'll have two more bands to work through before Eyes Set to Kill close things out. The show is at Scout Bar, 18307 Egret Bay Blvd, Houston, TX 77058, starting at 7:30 PM.
