A concert featuring the renowned Peruvian Afro-Peruvian musician Eva Ayllón performing bolero, folk and salsa with special guest Daniela Darcourt.
Eva Ayllón plays The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, October 14, at 8 PM. She's sharing the bill with Daniela Darcourt, so it's two voices on one stage rather than a solo set.
If you're not familiar with her, Ayllón is one of Peru's most prominent Afro-Peruvian musicians and one of the country's longest-running stars. Born María Angélica Ayllón Urbina on February 6, 1956, she's spent decades working within the Afro-Peruvian tradition, a style that draws from the African influence on Peru's music. The set pulls from bolero, folk, and salsa, so you'll hear a mix of slow, romantic songs and faster, danceable numbers throughout the night.
Having Daniela Darcourt on the bill adds another voice to the mix. Darcourt is a well-known singer in her own right, and seeing the two together gives the evening a different energy than a solo recital. Between the boleros and the salsa, the program covers a fair bit of ground, moving from the slower, melodic side of the repertoire to the more upbeat, rhythmic stuff.
