The Drunk Shakespeare Society presents Drunk Dracula, a theatrical tale of Dracula after the lead has downed whiskey. An adult-only show with strong language, vulgarity, and audience interaction.
Drunk Dracula is running at The Emerald Theatre through November 8, presented by the Drunk Shakespeare Society. It's a Houston offshoot of the Drunk Shakespeare group, and this is their third season here.
The premise is pretty straightforward: before the show starts, one member of the ensemble knocks back five shots of liquor of their choice. That person then leads the rest of the cast through a boozy, pop-culture-infused retelling of Dracula, while the sober members of the company try their best to keep the production on script. Dillion Dewitt takes the lead as Dracula. It's written by Lori Wolter Hudson and directed by Zac Kelty, with co-creators Lisa Klages Calhoun, David Hudson, and Scott Griffin, and produced by Brass Jar Productions.
Fair warning: this is an adult-only show for ages 21 and over. The production leans into strong language, vulgarity, sexual humor, and audience interaction, and the whole thing is billed as high-energy and fast-paced. Craft cocktails and snacks are available throughout the performance, so you can drink along with the cast if you're in the mood. If you're planning on going with a group, it's worth knowing that the show is built around that kind of atmosphere.
