A family-friendly musical adaptation of Dav Pilkey's bestselling series, following the adventures of the crime-fighting hero Dog Man.
Dog Man: The Musical comes to the Cullen Theater at the Wortham Center (500 Texas Avenue) for a short run from January 14 to 17, 2027. It's the stage adaptation of Dav Pilkey's bestselling series, from the same creator behind Captain Underpants and Cat Kid Comic Club.
The story follows best friends George and Harold, now 10, who write a musical about their favorite character: Dog Man, a crime-fighting sensation part dog, part man and all hero, with the head of a dog and the body of a policeman. He spends the show battling Flippy the cyborg fish and his army of Beasty Buildings while trying to catch Petey, the world's most evil cat, who has cloned himself for revenge. It's a family-friendly production that pairs live performance with the series' signature production design, and it's built around themes of friendship, compassion and justice.
Behind the scenes, the book and lyrics are by Kevin Del Aguila, with music by Brad Alexander and direction and choreography by Jen Wineman. The show runs about 60 minutes with no intermission, and it's recommended for ages 2 and upβwith grown-ups welcome to sing along.
