An evening celebrating Indian culture with Bollywood dance lessons and performances, henna art, cultural shopping and Indian food from local vendors.
Discovery Green is hosting Diwali - Festival of Lights on Saturday, November 14, a free evening celebrating Indian culture in the heart of downtown. The event is presented by Discovery Green and Tx2 Dance Company, and it's open to all ages.
The night is built around the core of the holiday: Bollywood dance. You can learn the moves yourself with lessons, and then watch performances that draw on dance styles from across India. There's also hands-on henna art, cultural shopping, and Indian food from local vendors. It's a mix of things you can do and things you can watch, so you can spend as much or as little time as you want.
For context, Diwali is the Festival of Lights, and it celebrates the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. The evening is built around that idea, with families invited to share music, dance, and traditions that inspire joy, connection, and the spirit of new beginnings. It's framed as a space for families and friends to share the festive spirit and experience the symbolism behind the holiday.
