Regional premiere of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play about marriage and friendship, presented by Dirt Dogs Theatre Co.
Dirt Dogs Theatre Co. is bringing Dinner with Friends to MATCH (Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston) from October 22 through November 7, 2026. It's a regional premiere of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Donald Margulies, directed by Curtis Barber.
The story centers on two couples whose lives are upended by a shocking divorce, sending ripples through their relationships and forcing each of them to question how well they really know one another, and themselves. It's billed as a razor-sharp, darkly funny and emotionally devastating examination of love, loyalty, desire and the stories people tell to sustain their closest bonds. Margulies wrote it as a contemporary classic, and the production treats it as one, with incisive dialogue and an unflinching honesty that still feels relevant. The whole thing is presented by Dirt Dogs Theatre Co. as a regional premiere, so this is the first time the play is being staged in the region.

On the practical side, the show runs about two hours with one intermission. That means you'll have a break to stretch your legs and grab a drink before the second half. Since it runs from October 22 to November 7, you've got a few weeks to find a night that works for you. If you're planning to go, keep in mind that the production is presented by Dirt Dogs Theatre Co. and staged at MATCH in Midtown.
