A community celebration of Día de los Muertos featuring a community ofrenda, Catrin y Catrinas parade and costume contest, traditional performances, live music, food, crafts and vendors, and the La Musical Ofrenda tribute concert.
Discovery Green hosts its annual Día de los Muertos celebration on Sunday, November 1, from 3 to 7 PM on the Sarofim Picnic Lawn. The holiday is a traditional Mexican day for honoring and remembering deceased loved ones, built around the idea of welcoming ancestral spirits back for a short visit.
The afternoon centers on a community ofrenda created by Houston artist Angel Quesada. Visitors are invited to bring a photo or a keepsake to add to it, making the altar a collective project rather than just something to look at. From there, the program moves through a Catrin y Catrinas parade and costume contest, traditional performances, live music, and a mix of food, crafts and local vendors. The whole thing closes with La Musical Ofrenda, a high-energy tribute concert honoring some of Houston's finest musicians and legendary Texas artists.
Discovery Green is the signature event of a wider downtown program. If you want to keep going, there's Una Noche en Downtown at Market Square Park, a family movie night screening Coco at Trebly Park, and illuminated calacas lighting up the Main Street Promenade. The long-established Día de los Muertos Festival and Parade also returns to Sam Houston Park.
