A free outdoor concert featuring the Norteño and Cumbia band EZ Band with Bombón as part of the Deep in the Heart series at Discovery Green.
EZ Band with Bombón play Discovery Green on Thursday, October 8, as part of Deep in the Heart, the park's new weekly concert series. The show runs from 7 to 9 PM on the Anheuser-Busch Stage, an outdoor venue with the downtown skyline as a backdrop facing the Fondren Performance Space. The series is built to celebrate the sounds of the Lone Star State, booking emerging and regional Texas artists across Americana, country, Tejano, indie rock, blues, folk, and roots music, and to create a community gathering in the heart of downtown.
EZ Band, originally known as Viento Norteño, traces its roots to Jaime's father, Agustin, who sang on buses across Mexico and taught his son the bajosexto. After several name changes, including Rebelde Norteño and Enzzamble, the band now fuses Norteño, Cumbia, and pop into Spanglish renditions of classic songs. Jaime fronts the group on vocals, accordion, and bajosexto, and the lineup includes Agustin, Aldo, Dulce, Juan, Rigo, Jesse, and Lalo. They've gathered millions of social-media views, played an MLS halftime show, and been featured by The New York Times, NPR, and Univision.
